At WadeGair, when we build a blog based website or integrate a blog or news feed into our customer’s websites we routinely provide RSS feeds. RSS feeds are the latest, greatest way to consume information online for everyone who is time poor – which would be all of us then…
RSS feeds are great because they provide you with the easiest way to push information (the latest developments, your opinion or simply your latest news) to your customers in a way which is convenient to them. Now, some may regard this latest bit of technology as a bit of a “Geek Gimmick” and to a certain degree they may have a point, but what is also very true is the fact that Search Engines love RSS feeds and any advantage you have in the ongoing task of promoting your business online is always welcome – especially if you don’t have to do anything! Here lies another great advantage of blogs – they automatically make and keep up to date your RSS feed.
Now I have been asked for and provided an explanation of what RSS feeds actually are on several occasions, however, as they say if you want a simple answer to a technical question – never ask a technical person.
For an in depth definition you can read up on Wikipedia, however, while browsing www.commoncraft.com recently I came across their great (and slightly amusing) video explanation. Enjoy it here.
