Or rather more accurately, not actual clients because that could lead to all sorts of complications and awkwardness, but their businesses. I have worked with a wide range of businesses over my 10 years in digital media and I have fallen in love with each business and I think this is an essential part of what I do. It helps if you admire, respect and feel passionate about something that you are trying to market, promote and sell or else you can’t be a real ambassador for that company.
Over my 10 years I have wanted to be an engineer for Network Rail, an investment banker for Goldman Sachs, a Fast Track Teacher, a Police Officer, a member of the civil staff at the Metropolitan Police – to revolutionise the water industry with Arvia technology, to build beautiful homes with Brooks & Ware Architects, to turn-around business processes with MCI Systems, and to work in the health service in Nigeria…
I love my job and its opportunities, to look at where it has taken me to date and to wonder where it will take me next. And I love the point when you’re looking at a new client, at their product, their services and their competitors. When you are checking out the marketplace, seeing the environment in which they work and beginning to get under the skin of what they do and who they are. This is like the ‘chase’ before you start your big romance.
