First of all, Happy 2010, we hope it is a very happy, healthy and successful year and decade. So far it has been defined by the weather – or rather the snow, lots of it – and also some interesting events in technology including the unveiling of the Nexus One and the beginnings of a spat between Google and the Chinese government.
Blog ‘Opinion’
It’s been a long time
Dec 3rd, 2009
I am beginning to realise that blogging is like exercise, dieting, New Year’s resolutions and managing a reward system for your child – it is something you start with the best intentions but that can get dropped when your time is squeezed and you are under pressure.
Why twitter before you can blog?
Oct 5th, 2009
I have to confess something and this might make you think less of me and maybe even question my claim that I understand the internet and the online world but I don’t really get Twitter. Although as a evangelical follower of Channel Four news I realise I could have got this really really wrong because they tweet, a lot.
And what I get even less than Twitter is why a business would choose to Tweet before they have their own blog?
When GoogleAds are a waste of money
Oct 5th, 2009
Today I have been carrying out some competitive analysis for a proposal we are writing this week and it has taken me further into the world of SEO or Search Engine Optimization for the uninitiated. And once again it has opened up a whole new issue relating to SEO. Lots of companies offer SEO expertise and I presume that they make good money out of it, but there are occassions when paying for a GoogleAd, even when it achieves its aim, is not money well spent.
Can the internet really change the world?
Sep 28th, 2009
I grew up in what I saw as the heady days of the 1980s, in the era of Band Aid, Live Aid, Free Nelson Mandela and the Sharpville Six. And when I was 16 I really believed that music could change the world. Well obviously it didn’t – and we still have Bono and events like Live8 trying to bring about change.
The importance of leading by example
Sep 23rd, 2009
Well the summer is now over and the leaves are all turning a mix of beautiful colours and I have just noticed how long it is since I last blogged and yet I am spending much of my time extolling the virtues of blogging to many of our clients. It’s definitely a case of ‘do as I say, not do as I do’. Oh dear. Not a good example to set!
A website done badly is no good at all
Jul 3rd, 2009
So we know that a call to action is essential, that business blogging is the way forward on so many levels that it just needs to be done and that websites are more than online brochures in the world of Web 2.0. But let’s be realistic – if you are a small company or a start-up business in the current economic climate with credit nearly impossible to come by and possibly facing incredibly tough times do you really have the money to spend on a website? On marketing?
Some simple rules to successful marketing
May 11th, 2009
I’ve had three interesting marketing moments today. I started with one of those great moments when a client really got the basics of marketing and understood that it doesn’t need to be complicated or scarey; that marketing is not some sort of ‘dark art’. They understood that if you set some simple, basic rules and follow them in a consistent and uniform manner it will make their communications more successful. That paying attention to detail really is important and does matter.

Apr 2nd, 2009

Why should you consider a Business Blog?
Apr 2nd, 2009
Blogs, Weblogs, Blogging are all phrases not immediately obvious in terms of my business I hear you say. At WadeGair we advise something different and let me explain why.
